A post contradicting the stated purpose a newsgroup was created with, as recorded in its charter during the group creation process. In moderated groups the moderator rejects such articles outright; in unmoderated groups the charter carries only whatever weight regulars give it. Repeated violations were grounds for complaints to a poster's provider, and occasionally for proposals to remove or moderate the group.
