A gateway running the opposite direction from mail2news, forwarding articles from a newsgroup out to email subscribers or to a mailing list address. It gave list members access to a group's traffic without a newsreader. Loop prevention matters, because a news2mail gateway paired with a mail2news gateway will echo the same messages back and forth indefinitely if headers are not checked.
