Also known as: UUCP path, bang address
The routing notation used before domain addressing, writing an address as a chain of hosts separated by exclamation marks, such as decvax!ucbvax!user. Each hop named the next machine a message should be handed to, because no global directory existed and UUCP links were point to point. Traces survive in the Path header, which still records the sites an article crossed. Obsolete as an address form.
