The informal code of conduct governing Usenet posting: trim quoted text, keep signatures short, stay on a group's topic, read the FAQ before asking, and avoid crossposting to unrelated groups. Enforcement was purely social, through public correction or killfiles, since no central authority existed. RFC 1855 collected much of it in 1995. The conventions persist on surviving text groups and shaped later email and forum manners.
